Two young bears in need of a second chance now reside at Woodland Park Zoo. Juniper is a brown bear found orphaned in Alaska. Fern is a grizzly bear (a type of brown bear) who was orphaned in Montana. Unable to survive on their own, the girls were welcomed to Woodland Park Zoo in 2022 and are now growing up together. Juniper sports the lighter colored fur while Fern is browner in coloring. Both are now beloved ambassadors for Woodland Park Zoo’s efforts to advocate for the recovery of grizzlies in Washington’s North Cascades Ecosystem.
