Gray Wolf

On a global level, the gray wolf is widespread. But in the United States, gray wolves were nearly eradicated. Thanks to teamwork between government organizations, nonprofits, Indigenous Peoples and private landowners, gray wolves have started to make a comeback. As an apex predator, gray wolves play a significant role in ecosystems by regulating prey and helping to shape the natural communities where they live.
